ASHLAND, OR – Fourteenth-ranked Warrior Volleyball completed the season sweep of (RV) Southern Oregon for the first time in program history after a 3-0 sweep of the Raiders on Saturday. LC State, who joined the Raiders in the Cascade Conference in 2021, took the match with set scores of 28-26, 25-23, 25-20.
Back-and-forth sets favored the Warriors with the help of an efficient night by Karissa Lindner. The junior middle blocker hit .636 with seven kills and no errors alongside five blocks to aid the defense.
The win improves the LC State record to 12-3 overall and 9-3 in Cascade Conference play to keep the Warriors tied for second place in the standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kills by Karissa Lindner, Mikale Roy, Juliauna Forgach Aguilar and Abby Beaton, as well as an ace by Hannah Dotson, had LC State out to a 7-6 lead early in the first set. Teagan Scott added a kill as the back-and-forth continued, and Lindner notched a kill before a block with Forgach Aguilar evened the score 10-10.
SOU pulled ahead 17-13 before a run of three with kills by Taylor Boyce and Linder had the Warriors back within one, 17-16, but the Raiders rallied to push the margin back to 20-16. Boyce tallied a kill and Esther Kailiponi dealt an ace out of a timeout to regain momentum for LC State. Kills by Forgach Aguilar and Scott, an ace by Ella Stosich and block by Beaton and Alba Caprena tied the set 24-24. Boyce denied SOU at the net and Beaton kept the set going with a kill to make it 26-26. LC State took the set 28-26 with a block by Scott and Lindner followed by a kill by Boyce.
Three Raider errors started the second set for a quick LC State advantage, but SOU turned things around to take a 4-3 lead, but blocks by Lindner, Forgach Aguilar, Beaton and Carpena put the Warriors back in front. A pair of kills by Forgach Aguilar and ace by Stosich capped the six-point run with LC State ahead 9-4.
Boyce and Kailiponi accounted for back-to-back points with a kill and ace, respectively, for a 16-9 advantage, and kills by Carpena and Forgach Aguilar grew the difference to 20-12. An eight-point surge by SOU erased the LC State lead and tied the frame 21-21. A block by Scott and Lindner gave the Warriors a 24-22 edge and Lindner ended the set with a kill at 25-23.
Swings by Lindner and Carpena and an ace by Dotson gave the Warriors a 5-3 lead in the third frame and kills by Beaton and Boyce grew the margin to 13-7 with the help of SOU errors. The Raiders rallied to cut the lead to 13-11 before points from Carpena, Forgach Aguilar and Stosich widened the gap back to 20-15. Lindner tallied a kill before she assisted on a block with Carpena at 23-17 and Forgach Aguilar ended the match with a pair of kills to take the set 25-20.
STAT RECAP
Lindner was stellar on both sides of the ball with five block assists and seven kills on no errors. With 11 total attempts the junior hit at an impressive attack percentage of .636.
Forgach Aguilar led the contest with 13 kills to go with eight digs and Boyce and Carpena each had six kills. Scott orchestrated the offense with 31 assists alongside seven digs. Stosich led the back row with 13 digs paired with three aces.
LC State hit .222 as a team and held SOU to .132.
