AAA: Idaho Gas Prices Dip Slightly as Crude Oil Costs Fall

BOISE, ID – Idaho motorists are seeing a modest drop in fuel prices this week, and experts say the trend could continue as crude oil prices slide.

According to AAA, the state’s average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.46—about a penny lower than last week, six cents less than a month ago, and two cents higher than this time last year. The national average is $3.08 per gallon, down five cents from last week and 12 cents from a year ago.

Idaho currently ranks eighth in the nation for the highest fuel prices, trailing California ($4.67), Washington ($4.48), Hawaii ($4.46), Oregon ($4.09), Nevada ($3.88), Alaska ($3.87), and Arizona ($3.48).

“Idaho drivers are getting eager to see some more savings at the pump,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Fuel demand tends to drop off heading into the colder months, and the falling cost of crude oil could also help our cause. We could all do with a little more walking around money as we gear up for end-of-year holidays.”

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading just under $60 per barrel, dipping below that threshold for the first time since April 2021. AAA attributes the decline to increased production by OPEC+ and easing tensions in the Middle East.

AAA encourages drivers to maintain their vehicles for better fuel efficiency, including checking tire pressure and using fuel injector cleaner regularly.
