BOISE, ID — Idaho Leaders United (ILU) held its third annual reception Tuesday evening in Boise, bringing together state officials, law enforcement, and community members to recognize efforts promoting respect and civil discourse.
During the event, ILU presented the Pillar of Idaho Award to U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit for his work addressing fentanyl trafficking, child exploitation, violent crime, and financial fraud across the state. Hurwit was also recognized for advancing civil rights through “United Against Hate” forums and investigations into hate crimes and extremist violence.
Meridian Police Chief Tracy Basterrechea and Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford both commended Hurwit for his impartial approach to law enforcement and commitment to public safety. Hurwit emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law “without fear or favor” and expressed appreciation for ILU’s efforts to counter political extremism and promote mutual respect.
Idaho Leaders United describes itself as a nonpartisan coalition founded in 2023 to oppose bigotry, political violence, and extremism in civic life.
