LEWISTON, ID – Idaho Fish and Game officials have announced plans to stock more than 46,000 catchable-size rainbow trout in lakes, ponds, and rivers throughout the Clearwater Region this month.
According to the agency, October is one of the busiest trout stocking periods of the year, with fish ranging from 10 to 12 inches being released at multiple fishing sites. All fish scheduled for release are rainbow trout unless otherwise noted, and stocking dates may shift depending on weather, water levels, or staffing conditions.
Officials encourage anglers to take advantage of these opportunities at several family-friendly fishing locations listed through the Idaho Fish Planner on the department’s website. Community ponds are highlighted as excellent places for beginners, where simple tackle such as worms, marshmallows, or commercial baits like PowerBait can be used either near the bottom or under a bobber.
Most waters in Idaho remain open to fishing year-round, but anglers are reminded to check the 2025–2027 Fishing Seasons and Rules booklet for regional regulations, season dates, and bag limits. The booklets are available online and at Idaho Fish and Game offices or participating sporting goods stores statewide.
More information, including maps of local fishing areas, can be found on the Idaho Fish and Game website at idfg.idaho.gov.
