BOISE, ID — Idaho State Police announced the arrest of a Pocatello man accused of making a bomb threat directed at the Idaho State Capitol earlier this month.
According to a release from ISP, on October 8 at around 10:14 a.m., Pocatello Police responded to reports of a 58-year-old man making several threatening phone calls to employees of a local property management company. During those calls, he allegedly made violent threats, including statements about “blowing them up.”
Roughly 20 minutes later, at approximately 10:35 a.m., employees at the Idaho State Capitol complex in Boise received multiple threatening calls from the same number. In one of the calls, a man claimed a bomb had been planted in the building, prompting an immediate evacuation as a precaution. Two additional voicemails followed, containing similar threatening language.
Pocatello Police located the suspect later that morning and took him into protective custody. Detectives from both Pocatello Police and Idaho State Police worked together to connect him to the Capitol threat. On October 14, investigators confirmed the voice on the Capitol recordings matched the suspect. He was arrested on October 16 and booked into the Bannock County Jail on probable cause for one felony count of making false reports of explosives in public or private places, a violation of Idaho Code § 18-3313.
Authorities confirmed no explosives were found at the Capitol, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
Idaho State Police expressed appreciation for the assistance of the Pocatello Police Department and the Idaho Department of Administration. The investigation remains ongoing.
