LEWISTON, ID – No. 11 LC State Volleyball completed a perfect weekend on Saturday with a sweep of The Evergreen State College (Wash.) in the P1FCU Activity Center. The Warriors took the match with scores of 25-18, 25-12, 25-15 for their third consecutive sweep.
LC State hit .330 as a team with only nine errors and each player with multiple kills hit at least .333.
The victory improves the LC State record to 14-3 overall and 11-3 in Cascade Conference play. The Warriors remain tied with No. 8 Corban (Ore.) for second place in the CCC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
LC State took control early. Evergreen jumped out to a 6-3 lead, but a kill by Karissa Lindner sparked a run of five, aided by an ace by Ashlyn Watt and kill by Abby Beaton, to put LC in front 8-6. Taylor Boyce recorded three straight kills before another swing by the sophomore started another five-point run to put the Warriors ahead 16-10. Beaton added a kill in the stretch before a block assist with Teagan Scott, and Juliauna Forgach Aguilar capped the stretch with a kill. The freshmen duo of Mikale Roy and Helena Stewart added a block in the set to carry the frame to its 25-18 score.
The Warriors put together a massive 13-0 run in the second frame to surge in front 17-3. Forgach Aguilar, Boyce, Roy, Esther Kailiponi and Kadence Moore each tallied points in the span. A kill by Scott and three by Forgach Aguilar ended the quick set 25-12. LC State had just one attack error in the set.
A kill by Beaton and ace by Ella Stosich kept the momentum going for the Warriors in the third frame before kills by Lindner and an ace by Moore made it a 6-3 advantage. Forgach Aguilar struck for back-to-back kills at 12-7 before adding two more with an ace by Stosich to make it 16-9. Boyce and Beaton combined for the final five kills of the match to cap the 25-15 set.
STAT RECAP
Boyce led the contest with 15 kills at a clip of .387 and Forgach Aguilar hit .333 with 13 kills. Beaton and Lindner each notched six kills from the middle with attack percentages of .545 and .667, respectively.
Scott led the match with 13 assists, Kailiponi added 12 and Kendall Focht dished out a career-high seven. Stosich was the defensive highlight of the match with 21 digs and Makenzie Stout had eight.
Sophia Scroggins led Evergreen with seven kills, Jayden Vaimaona had 11 assists and Jaci Yamada collected 10 digs.
