LEWISTON, ID – A Lewiston man has been charged following an investigation by the Lewiston Police Department and into allegations involving inappropriate contact with a minor.
According to court documents, 30-year-old Austin R. Kelly was arrested on Friday and charged with one count of lewd conduct with a minor child under sixteen, a felony. The charge was filed following an investigation that began after a parent discovered concerning information in a child’s journal.
Investigators said the child told a forensic interviewer that she met Kelly through a family member. Court records allege Kelly became controlling and manipulative over time and that the child was subjected to repeated sexual acts.
The report also says Kelly allegedly asked the victim for explicit photos and wanted to make recordings of them engaged in sexual acts. During a later search of his residence, detectives and the property owner reportedly recovered multiple cell phones, a laptop, and female clothing items that investigators said could contain digital evidence. The specific details of the evidence listed was not revealed in the probable cause affidavit.
Kelly was arrested and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail. He is expected to make an initial appearance in Nez Perce County Court on Monday afternoon.
