SPOKANE, WA — Detectives with the Spokane Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday evening on the city’s east side.
At approximately 7 p.m. on October 17, 2025, SPD patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire near Mission Avenue and Cincinnati Street. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately began administering emergency medical aid. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died despite lifesaving efforts by medics.
According to SPD, preliminary information indicates that those involved were known to each other and that the incident was not a random act of violence.
Detectives from both the Major Crimes Unit and the Special Investigations Unit are following multiple leads as the investigation continues. Police emphasized that, while the location was near the Gonzaga University campus, there is no indication the shooting involved students or staff.
