LEWISTON, ID – The LC State Men’s Golf team ended the fall portion of the season with a second-place finish at The Warrior Fall Invitational. Luke West, Lucas Ortega and Sondre Andresen each finished in the top five to earn all-tournament honors.
The Warriors finished 10 strokes back of Oregon Tech at 5-over, 581, as a team after rounds of 291-290. The LC State B team was fifth at 21-over, 597, and finished ahead of Simpson (Calif.), Walla Walla (Wash.) and Providence (Mont.).
“Not what we wanted this tournament,” coach Zach Anderson said. “On our home course we really struggled to achieve our goal of winning on our home turf. Frustrating is the word I would use to characterize this week. Overall, it was a decent fall with lots of positives. We will take a much-needed break and dive into the off-season knowing we need to switch some things up be the team we want to be in the spring.”
West used a round of 1-under, 71, to finish 1-under for the tournament at 143. The junior led LC State with a tie for third individually in the field of 46 after four birdies in his final round of the fall.
Ortega and Andresen tied for fifth at even-par, 144. Ortega shot 71-73 over the two rounds and Andresen went 73-71. Ortega carded four birdies in his final 18 holes while Andresen was consistent with two birdies to just one bogey.
Adam Lovatt tied for 21st to conclude his first fall after two rounds of 75 to finish 6-over. Andrea Artusini tied for 30th at 11-over.
Senior Kye Krall and freshman Casey Johansen led the B team in a tie for 11th. Johansen carded a 1-under, 71, in his second collegiate round and Krall shot a 74, both doing do with four birdies. The pair finished 3-over, 147.
Jaxon Moon tied for 19th in the field at 5-over after a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, and Aaron Brown tied for 27th at 10-over after the junior shaved six strokes off from his first round.
“Another great home tournament in the books and I could not have done it without my athletic support staff: Alisha, Sam, George, Ray, Kylie and Jim,” Anderson said. “I want to thank them for their support. Thank you to my staff: Alex, Gordy and Raegan. I also want to thank Lewiston Golf and Country Club along with the members that also helped with spotting and rules officiating this week. I am so grateful to be a part of the Warrior family and the LC valley community.”
