NEZ PERCE, ID – A vehicle burglary in progress early Wednesday morning led to a police pursuit and arrest near Nezperce, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 1:23 a.m. on October 22, deputies were dispatched to a report of a vehicle burglary on Cemetery Road. When law enforcement arrived, the reporting party pointed out the suspects’ vehicle as it fled the area.
A deputy quickly located the vehicle, but the driver attempted to escape by turning into an agricultural field, prompting a pursuit. The chase ended after both the suspect’s vehicle and the patrol car went over a large embankment and stopped in a nearby field.
The driver, identified as Gregory L. Wyatt, was taken into custody on charges including attempted burglary, felony eluding an officer, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of paraphernalia.
A female passenger was transported to a local hospital. Information regarding her involvement is being referred to the Nezperce Tribal Police.
The sheriff’s office stated that the release of this information serves to inform the public about law enforcement activity and promote public safety. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
