REARDAN, WA — A fatal collision involving a garbage truck closed both directions of U.S. Highway 2 Friday morning about four miles east of Reardan, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers were called to the scene around 10:27 a.m. for a one-vehicle, head-on crash involving a commercial garbage truck. The highway was fully blocked as Spokane County Fire and WSDOT crews responded.
Traffic was detoured westbound via Stroup Road and eastbound via Carstens Road. The reopening time remains unknown.
At least one person was killed. Their identity has not been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation, and it’s not yet known if impairment played a role.
