BOISE, ID — Idaho drivers are seeing slightly lower prices at the pump this week, offering some relief as families prepare for Halloween festivities.
AAA reports the statewide average price for regular gasoline is now $3.40 per gallon, down five cents from a week ago and ten cents from last month. However, prices remain about two cents higher than at this time last year.
Nationally, gas prices have inched upward in recent days. The current U.S. average is $3.05, about two cents higher than last week but still below last month and last year’s averages. Idaho continues to rank among the higher-priced states, currently 7th most expensive for fuel. California tops the list at $4.59 per gallon, while Mississippi has the lowest average at $2.59.
AAA says global supply concerns — including sanctions on Russian crude — are influencing market behavior heading into the winter months.
“The market is trying to predict how much crude oil will be out there this winter,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Even so, barring extreme tensions or a major hurricane hitting near a refinery, we could see a calming trend between now and Thanksgiving.”
The West Texas Intermediate crude benchmark is currently trading near $62 per barrel, about $2 less than a month ago. According to the Energy Information Administration, U.S. gasoline inventories have fallen by two million barrels while demand remains steady, creating potential for future price fluctuation.
