WEIPPE, ID — A 22-year-old Orofino man was trapped in his vehicle for close to two hours early Saturday after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing into a power pole along Highway 11, according to the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the crash happened at about 3:31 a.m. on October 25 near the Timberline Café. The vehicle, driven by Jayson Mcadow, struck both a mailbox and a power pole, leaving live power lines draped over the vehicle. The hazardous conditions prevented Mcadow from being able to exit until responders could ensure the scene was safe.
Weippe Ambulance, Weippe Fire, Avista Power and Clearwater Power assisted deputies in the response. Mcadow was evaluated at the scene and released, and reportedly received a misdemeanor citation for inattentive or careless driving.
Highway 11 was shut down for approximately four hours while crews worked to restore power and remove the vehicle. Johnboys Towing handled the recovery.
