CLARKSTON, WA — A man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he trespassed on rural properties and assaulted a law enforcement officer during an arrest attempt outside Clarkston on Thursday.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Asotin County Superior Court, 33-year-old Khai A. Brown was arrested on October 23 after witnesses reported a shirtless man appearing to be under the influence and walking in the roadway near Asotin Creek Road and Cloverland Road.
Deputies initially attempted to contact Brown around 2:30 p.m., but he allegedly continued walking and did not engage. Although deputies say Brown was not breaking any laws at that time, they later received additional reports that he was walking in the roadway, prompting a return response.
A resident then reported that Brown had allegedly entered private property on Cloverland Road and requested trespassing charges. As deputies searched the area, Brown reportedly jumped a fence into another landowner’s field. Deputies told Brown he was under arrest for trespassing, but he allegedly turned and continued to flee down the hill.
During the pursuit, a deputy attempted to restrain Brown. The deputy reported that Brown allegedly struck him in the head multiple times with a closed fist, causing a cut and bruising around the eye. Deputies ultimately took Brown into custody at the bottom of the grade, according to the affidavit.
Brown was booked into the Asotin County Jail on second-degree criminal trespass (two counts), resisting arrest, and third-degree assault.
The allegations remain under review, and formal charges will be determined by the Asotin County Prosecutor’s Office. Brown is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
