Amazon to cut About 14,000 Corporate Jobs in Organizational Restructuring

SEATTLE, WA – Amazon has announced that it will reduce its corporate workforce by approximately 14,000 positions as part of a company-wide restructuring effort aimed at streamlining operations and reducing bureaucracy.

In a memo to employees, Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, said the cuts are part of ongoing work to make the company operate “like the world’s largest startup,” with fewer management layers and greater employee ownership.

The reductions will affect some teams across the company, while other areas will continue hiring, Galetti said. Affected employees will be notified beginning Tuesday.

Amazon plans to give most impacted workers 90 days to seek new roles within the company, with recruiting teams prioritizing internal candidates. Those who do not find or choose not to pursue another position will receive severance pay, outplacement services, health benefits, and other transition support.

Galetti said the changes are part of broader efforts to “reduce bureaucracy, remove layers, and shift resources” toward Amazon’s biggest priorities and emerging opportunities.

She noted that while Amazon continues to perform well financially and operationally, the restructuring reflects the company’s need to stay agile in a fast-changing environment shaped by rapid advances in artificial intelligence.

“As Andy [Jassy] talked about earlier this year, we expect to continue hiring in key strategic areas while also finding additional places we can remove layers, increase ownership, and realize efficiency gains,” Galetti wrote.

The memo emphasized that Amazon remains focused on innovation and long-term growth despite the workforce reductions.
