PULLMAN, WA – Washington State University food pantries are preparing for increased demand as federal SNAP funding remains uncertain amid the ongoing government shutdown.
The Trump administration announced only partial payments for SNAP this month after courts ruled a planned funding pause unlawful. More than 42 million Americans rely on the program, including WSU students and staff.
WSU Pullman’s Cougar Food Pantry serves about 4,000 people monthly, and university food pantries systemwide are restocking shelves and encouraging donations of food, toiletries, or funds. Student groups, including the Interfraternity Council, are also organizing food drives to support local pantries.
Donations can be made through foundation.wsu.edu/student-support.
