Idaho Joins Nationwide Celebration of Marine Corps’ 250th Anniversary

BOISE, ID — Idaho will take part in a nationwide observance of the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps on November 10, joining all 50 states in hosting a ceremonial cake-cutting to mark the historic milestone.

The Marine Corps League Department of Idaho is partnering with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation to honor the founding of the Corps in 1775. The cake-cutting tradition symbolizes unity and the lasting commitment shared among Marines across generations.

“The annual birthday cake-cutting ceremony is a reminder of why we made this commitment to our nation and our service,” said retired Marine Major General James Lukeman, president and CEO of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. “This year’s ceremonies take on added significance as we celebrate 250 years since the Marine Corps’ founding.”

The American Bakers Association is contributing to the celebration by providing cakes for ceremonies nationwide, highlighting the baking industry’s support for the military community. In Idaho, the cake is being crafted with contributions from United States Bakery and Crave Kitchen & Bar of Eagle.

Organizers note that the anniversary honors the many Idahoans who have served as Marines — from those who fought in wars abroad to those who returned home and strengthened their communities through leadership and service. The state also remains home to the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Marine Forces Reserve, whose members continue that legacy today.
