WSU Administration Again Requesting Maximum Tuition Increase-3.3% Proposed Hike For Next Academic Year

PULLMAN, WA – Washington State University tuition is proposed to once again increase by the maximum allowed by law. The WSU Regents will consider approving next year’s tuition rates during their board meeting next week. State law caps annual tuition increases at public higher education institutions by no more than the average annual percentage growth rate in Washington’s median hourly wage.

This year’s cap is 3.3%. The WSU administration is asking the regents to increase tuition to the maximum. The regents documents notes that maximum tuition hikes have been approved at WSU 6 times in the past 9 years. The last two years of tuition hikes were maxed out at 3% in 2024-2025 and 3.3% this year.

If approved by the regents, WSU in-state undergraduate tuition for the 2026-2027 academic year would increase by nearly 400 dollars to just over 12,000 dollars. Documents to the regents shows that WSU already has the highest annual tuition and fees in the state at nearly 14,000 dollars for the current academic year.
The WSU Regents will consider approving the tuition hikes during their meeting in Seattle next week on Friday.
