ATHOL, ID – Silverwood Theme Park, the Pacific Northwest’s largest theme and water park, is set to join Herschend Family Entertainment’s portfolio of family attractions following the signing of an exclusive term sheet for acquisition.

Herschend, based in Atlanta, is the world’s largest family-held themed attractions company and operates well-known destinations such as Dollywood Parks & Resorts, Silver Dollar City, and the Harlem Globetrotters. The agreement marks another expansion for the company, which also recently added properties like Kennywood and Adventureland.

Silverwood has been owned and operated by the Norton family for more than 35 years. Founded in 1988 by Gary Norton, the park has grown to include more than 70 rides and attractions across 400 acres, including Boulder Beach Water Park and a 1915 steam engine train.

“Silverwood has been our family’s life’s work for more than three decades,” said Paul Norton, Silverwood’s Chief Operating Officer. “When the time came to pass the torch, Herschend was the only choice. They share our values, our long-term approach, and our belief that parks like this are built by people with heart.”

Herschend CEO Andrew Wexler said the company intends to honor Silverwood’s legacy while continuing its commitment to family-centered experiences.

The companies are now in the due diligence phase and expect to finalize the acquisition after completing that process.

Silverwood, located in North Idaho’s scenic panhandle, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The park is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, roller coasters, water attractions, and seasonal events.
