Missouri Man Gets 10 Years for Trafficking Cocaine into Southern Idaho

BOISE, ID – A Missouri man convicted of trafficking large quantities of cocaine into Idaho has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho.

William Charles Jones, 34, of St. Louis, was sentenced to 120 months in federal custody for his role in distributing cocaine throughout the Treasure Valley. Court records show Jones regularly traveled to Missouri to purchase kilogram-level quantities of cocaine, which he then shipped to himself at an Idaho residence. Investigators said he supplied several mid-level distributors in the region.

In one instance, Jones traveled to Canada to obtain two kilograms of cocaine and shipped them to Idaho. Customs and Border Protection and the Drug Enforcement Administration intercepted and seized the shipment at the U.S.–Canadian border.

After Jones was indicted, investigators executed a federal search warrant at his residence. Inside, they recovered a garage workstation outfitted with a scale, packaging supplies, and a heat sealer, along with one and a half kilograms of cocaine in brick form, additional one-ounce bundles, psilocybin mushroom bars, and 16 unlawfully possessed firearms placed throughout the home. Officials noted the weapons appeared positioned to provide quick access in the event he needed to defend his drugs or criminal proceeds.

In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ordered Jones to serve four years of supervised release.

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Nampa Police Department Special Investigations Unit, Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Boise Police Department, Meridian Police Department, Customs and Border Protection, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Morse prosecuted the case.
