NAMPA, ID – A 52-year-old Nampa man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after being convicted of attempting to produce child sexual abuse material, according to a Wednesday announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho.
Federal prosecutors said William Walls used his cellphone to covertly record three female children in the bathroom of his apartment while he was babysitting them. Court records state the footage showed one child showering and the other two changing their clothes.
Walls was found guilty in May following a jury trial on three counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ordered Walls to serve 180 months in prison, followed by ten years of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
“Our office remains steadfastly committed to protecting Idaho’s children from abuse and exploitation,” U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis said in the release. “I am grateful for our partnership with local agencies like the Nampa Police Department. We are united in our efforts to hold sexual offenders accountable and bring justice to victims.”
The investigation by the Nampa Police Department led to the charges. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kassandra McGrady and Erin Blackadar.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources.
