COLFAX, WA — The Palouse Conservation District is inviting producers across the region to gather for a Soil Health Breakfast on Wednesday, December 10, from 8 to 10 a.m. at The Center in Colfax, located next to the Whitman County Library.
The event offers farmers and ranchers a chance to share experiences, exchange ideas, and discuss practical approaches to improving soil health while enjoying a complimentary breakfast and coffee. Organizers described the gathering as a peer-to-peer learning opportunity focused on real-world techniques used across the Palouse.
This month’s featured speaker, Ariel Zakarison of Zakarison Farms, will present on her work implementing soil-building practices such as cover cropping, intercropping, and alternative fertility methods. She will also touch on direct-to-consumer marketing and how diversified strategies can strengthen farm resilience.
Registration is open through Sunday, December 7, or until capacity is reached. Those interested can sign up through the Palouse Conservation District’s event page. Producers unable to attend in person may request virtual access by emailing ElizabethS@PalouseCD.org.
The December gathering marks the beginning of a winter series of Soil Health Breakfasts, with additional sessions and speakers to be announced.
