NAMPA, ID – A group is collecting signatures in support of renaming an Idaho highway as the “Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway.”
According to a petition drive announced on the organization’s website, the Idaho Family Policy Center is seeking to rename Idaho State Highway 16.
In its announcement, the group said it is calling on state lawmakers to designate the highway, which runs between Emmett and Nampa, in honor of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The organization described Kirk as a “patriot,” “a dad,” “a husband,” and “a follower of Jesus Christ,” and said he was “martyred while sharing his faith and political views with a gathering of Utah university students several weeks back.”
The petition materials state that, in the group’s view, the renaming would recognize Kirk’s legacy and underscore the organization’s call for protecting political and religious speech.
The Idaho Family Policy Center is encouraging supporters to gather signatures at churches, small groups, social clubs, and Christian schools. Petition sheets can be downloaded from the organization’s website.
