MYRTLE, ID — Crews have begun preparing the slope above U.S. Highway 12 near Arrow Bridge as part of ITD’s ongoing emergency rock scaling project, with deeper excavation and rock removal expected to start Friday.
Rock scaling personnel arrived on site on Wednesday to assess stability and ready the area for operations. Workers are installing anchor points that will allow crews to safely climb the slope with specialized gear before beginning the controlled removal of loose material.
During active scaling, flaggers will hold traffic at safe distances, creating delays of roughly 20 minutes at a time. ITD notes that if conditions on the hillside change, a full closure may be required for safety.
Travelers can monitor real-time road conditions at 511.idaho.gov, through the Idaho 511 app, or by calling 5-1-1.
