YAKIMA, WA — A 36-year-old Wapato man has been sentenced to more than three decades in federal prison for a 2023 crash that killed another driver on North Track Road within the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington, Jason Alexander Logie was sentenced on November 18, 2025, to 405 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. A jury convicted Logie of Second Degree Murder on August 20, 2025.
Prosecutors said Logie was driving under the influence of alcohol on September 9, 2023, when he crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle, killing the driver. At the time of the crash, Logie had an extensive history of alcohol-related driving offenses. He was already serving a deferred sentence from the Yakama Nation Tribal Court for a 2022 DUI arrest and was also out on release from a separate Yakima County DUI case. He additionally had a warrant from Kansas for a second DUI offense issued in 2018.
During sentencing, Logie asked the court for a 66-month term. Prosecutors sought the full 405 months, citing his record and repeated failures to appear in court—more than 21 in total—along with multiple violations of release conditions. Chief U.S. District Judge Stanley A. Bastian imposed the 405-month sentence, emphasizing the danger Logie posed to the community.
U.S. Attorney Pete Serrano said strengthening partnerships with state, local, and Tribal law enforcement remains a priority, noting that cooperation was crucial in holding Logie accountable. “Repeat offenders like this are a direct threat to our communities,” Serrano said. “I am thankful for the efforts of our Tribal, state and federal partners to bring justice to this victim and their family.”
The case was investigated by the Yakama Nation Police Department, with assistance from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael D. Murphy and Courtney R. Pratten.
