LAPWAI, ID – The Nez Perce Tribal Police Department has marked the retirement of K9 Officer Monta, honoring the dog’s three years of service to the department and the community.
During her career, Monta was involved in 203 narcotic seizures, 9 patrol tracking deployments, and 1 human area search. Of the tracking deployments, six dangerous suspects were arrested, and Monta directly contributed to 63 arrests. She was deployed in 451 narcotic-related situations and worked alongside officers from multiple agencies, including the Idaho State Police, Lewis County, Clearwater County, Lewiston Police Department, and Tribal CPS.
Officer Cassidy White and K9 Monta were noted as an “incredible team” and served as ambassadors for the Nez Perce Tribal Police Department. Chief Mark Bensen praised Monta for her enthusiasm, dedication, and positive presence, saying she was beloved by the tribal community.
In recognition of her service, Monta was promoted meritoriously to the rank of Corporal. Chief Bensen wished her well in retirement, noting hopes for long naps, plenty of playtime, and continued companionship with her family.
