SEL Appoints New Vice President of Engineering Services

PULLMAN, WA — Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) has named Ashok Balasubramanian as its new Vice President of Engineering Services, the company announced Monday.

Balasubramanian, who joined SEL in 2010 as a project engineer, will oversee Engineering Services teams across the United States and Canada. His responsibilities include guiding the development and implementation of new technologies while maintaining high service standards for utility, industrial, commercial, and government customers.

During his 15 years with the company, Balasubramanian has served in several leadership roles, including Engineering Services manager, director of Engineering Services, and most recently senior engineering director of Technology & Development.

“Ashok has worked with SEL for 15 years and has developed deep technical expertise and broad leadership experience,” said Nicholas Seeley, senior vice president of Engineering Services. “I am looking forward to the impact he will make in his new role.”

Balasubramanian earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering from the University of Madras in 2004 and a master’s degree in power systems engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2006. He will continue to be based at SEL’s Houston, Texas, office.

In a statement, Balasubramanian said he is honored to take on the role and excited to continue advancing SEL’s mission.

“SEL leadership has built an incredible legacy, and now it’s our opportunity to build on that success, continuing to innovate and deliver exceptional value to our customers,” he said. “I look forward to learning, teaching and guiding as we achieve greater heights together.”

SEL, headquartered in Pullman, designs and manufactures digital products and systems that protect power grids worldwide. The employee-owned company has operated in the United States since 1984 and serves customers in 173 countries.
