K9 Alert Leads to Felony Drug Arrest Following Kooskia Traffic Stop

KOOSKIA, ID — A late-night traffic stop in Kooskia resulted in the arrest of a man on drug-related charges, according to a press release from the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were conducting traffic enforcement around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 when they pulled over a white Chevrolet Silverado for a traffic violation. While deputies spoke with the driver, K9 Millie was brought in to perform an open-air sniff of the vehicle, during which the dog reportedly alerted to the presence of controlled substances.

According to court documents, 48-year-old Stephen Akre of Kooskia was taken into custody on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine along with misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia. The sheriff’s office noted that the charges remain accusations at this stage and that the individual is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The agency stated that the arrest reflects its continued effort to address roadway safety concerns and drug activity in the region.
