Spokane Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Early-Morning Shooting

SPOKANE, WA — Spokane Police arrested a 33-year-old man Monday evening in connection with a shooting that left one person dead earlier in the day, according to the department.

Officers responded around 3:17 a.m. Sunday to an apartment near Pacific Avenue and Division Street after receiving reports of a shooting. When they entered the residence, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and began lifesaving efforts until medics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital but died a short time later, police said.

Several witnesses were interviewed at the scene, and detectives gathered additional evidence that helped identify a suspect who had fled before officers arrived. The Spokane Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Unit took over the investigation and began searching for the individual.

By Sunday evening, officers received information that the suspect was inside an apartment in the 500 block of West Sprague Avenue. After obtaining a search warrant, police entered the residence and took Randy R. Chaparro into custody without incident. Chaparro was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder, as well as on a felony warrant from the Department of Corrections for probation violations.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Crime Check at 509-456-2233 and reference case number 2025-20244837.
