MOSCOW, ID— The University of Idaho will honor more than 600 students during its 2025 Winter Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the ICCU Arena in Moscow. Two ceremonies are scheduled, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
According to the university, 602 eligible graduates will receive a combined 686 degrees, including three associate degrees, 406 bachelor’s degrees, 166 master’s degrees, 28 doctoral degrees, one specialist degree and eight juris doctorates. Another 74 students will earn academic certificates. Since its founding, U of I has awarded 144,095 degrees to 134,826 graduates.
U of I President Scott Green said this year’s graduating class reflects resilience and dedication. “Each graduate reached this milestone through determination, hard work and intellectual curiosity,” Green said. “Commencement is our chance to celebrate how far they’ve come and the impact they’re ready to make in communities across Idaho and beyond.”
John C. Wagner, director of Idaho National Laboratory and president of Battelle Energy Alliance, will deliver the commencement address. Wagner oversees more than 6,300 employees and a $2 billion research portfolio focused on advanced nuclear technologies. He is a fellow of both the American Nuclear Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Former Idaho governor and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne ’75 will receive the President’s Medallion in recognition of his decades of public service. Two honorary doctorates will also be awarded:
- Nick Purdy ’62, recognized for his leadership in Idaho agriculture and support of U of I’s agricultural engineering programs.
- Richard Dahl ’73, honored for his nationally recognized business leadership and longstanding support of the College of Business and Economics.
Commencement attendees will be required to follow security measures, including clear-bag protocols and metal detector screening. No bags will be allowed for graduating students, and weapons—including firearms and knives—are prohibited. U of I remains a tobacco-free campus, and alcohol consumption is restricted to approved areas.
