RIGGINS, ID – The Idaho Wild Sheep Foundation and Idaho Fish and Game are seeking public help after a bighorn sheep ram was poached and left to waste near Partridge Creek above Big Salmon Road. The ram was discovered by a sportsman on Nov. 24 and had been shot sometime between Nov. 20 and Nov. 22. No attempt was made to retrieve the animal, and there is no open season for bighorn sheep in this area of Unit 14.
In response to the incident, the Idaho Wild Sheep Foundation has raised its contribution to the Citizens Against Poaching reward fund. The total reward now stands at $12,800 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
“Wild sheep are important to Idaho — they are truly one of the ‘gems’ of the Gem State,” said Bill London, conservation committee chair for the foundation.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who was in the area and may have knowledge of potential witnesses, is urged to contact the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 800-632-5999 or the Idaho Fish and Game Clearwater Region office at 208-799-5010. Callers may remain anonymous.
Additional details and a pledge form for the reward are available online at idahowildsheep.org/poaching-reward-pledge.
