LEWISTON, ID — A Lewiston woman is facing multiple felony drug charges after law enforcement officials allege she delivered and possessed controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school.
According to court documents, Teresa M. Dyson was arrested Dec. 12 following an investigation by the Lewiston Police Department into suspected narcotics activity in the Lewiston Orchards area.
The affidavit states detectives conducting surveillance on locations described as known drug houses observed Dyson driving a silver Honda sedan and making several brief stops consistent with suspected drug activity. Officers further allege Dyson picked up a male subject, transported him a short distance, and dropped him off shortly afterward.
Based on those observations, officers initiated a traffic stop after alleging a turn-signal violation and developing reasonable suspicion of drug activity, according to the affidavit. A narcotics detection K-9 was deployed and allegedly alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
During a search, officers reported locating suspected marijuana concentrate, a hydrocodone pill, and unused plastic baggies commonly associated with drug distribution, according to court documents.
The affidavit further alleges that after Dyson was placed under arrest, she told officers she had additional contraband concealed on her person. With a detective present as a witness, Dyson allegedly removed a large bag of suspected methamphetamine from the front of her pants. Officers estimated the substance weighed approximately three-quarters of an ounce.
Investigators also contacted the male subject separately. According to court records, he allegedly told detectives he had obtained methamphetamine from Dyson. Officers stated the substance seized from the individual appeared to match the methamphetamine allegedly found in Dyson’s possession.
Police measured the distance between the alleged drug activity and McGhee School and determined it was approximately 950 feet away, resulting in a school-zone sentencing enhancement under Idaho law.
Dyson was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance (hydrocodone), and delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.
A magistrate later found probable cause to believe the alleged offenses were committed. The case remains pending in Nez Perce County District Court.
