SPOKANE, WA — Avista is preparing for possible power outages as a strong windstorm is expected to move through eastern Washington and northern Idaho from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
The utility says saturated soil from recent rainfall, combined with sustained high winds, increases the risk of falling trees and limbs bringing down power lines .
Avista reports crews and resources are staged across the region, with assessment teams, tree crews, and wire guard teams ready to respond. Employees are shifting from regular duties to assist with storm response as conditions develop.
Because winds are expected to remain strong, estimated restoration times may not be available until the storm passes and damage assessments are completed, a process that could take 24 hours or longer. Customers can track outages and updates through Avista’s outage map at myavista.com/outage .
Customers are encouraged to report outages online or by calling (800) 227-9187. Avista also urges residents to follow outage safety guidelines and to immediately report downed power lines or the smell of natural gas by calling 911 and Avista .
