IDAHO — Severe weather across Idaho on Wednesday led to multiple road closures and widespread traffic delays as extreme winds and thunderstorms impacted travel conditions statewide.
According to the Idaho Transportation Department, the storms caused numerous hazards, including downed trees, fallen power lines, and overturned semi-trucks, creating dangerous conditions on highways and local roads. ITD crews across the state have been working around the clock to clear debris and reopen roadways as conditions allow.
Officials urged motorists to limit travel, noting that road and weather conditions are changing rapidly and are expected to remain unstable until the storm system moves through late Wednesday night. Drivers were reminded that intersections with non-functioning traffic signals should be treated as four-way stops and that road barriers should never be driven through or around.
Emergency response agencies and dispatch centers are also reporting a high volume of storm-related calls. Authorities asked the public to reserve 911 calls for true emergencies and not for power outage reports or service restoration updates.
Information on specific road closures and travel impacts is available through the Idaho 511 system, including the Idaho 511 mobile app and the department’s website, which ITD said it is updating regularly during the storm.
