LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire Wednesday night in the 1800 block of Cedar Avenue.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 9:30 p.m. and arrived to find a one-story residence with smoke coming from the rear of the structure. Further investigation determined the fire originated in the basement.
Crews attacked the fire and conducted a search of the home to check for occupants. The fire was quickly knocked down, and no one was found inside the residence. Firefighters then used positive pressure ventilation to remove smoke from the structure and completed overhaul operations in the fire-damaged area.
The homeowners were located outside the residence and told firefighters they had evacuated after smoke detectors activated and that they had called 911.
The response included three structural engines, two ambulances, four chief officers and one fire inspector, for a total of 18 personnel.
The cause of the fire remains has not been determined. Damage to the structure and its contents was estimated at approximately $50,000. No injuries were reported.
