LEWISTON, ID – The 59 year old man accused of conducting a rolling shooting spree through the Palouse last summer has been sentenced for the Idaho portion of the case.
Shawn Johnson of Sequim was arrested by Idaho State Police on August 6th for shooting at a motorist on U.S. Highway 95 on the Lewiston Hill. Johnson was initially found incompetent to stand trial and received mental health treatment from the State of Idaho. He was found competent to stand trial and pleaded guilty in October to aggravated assault in Nez Perce County Second District Court in Lewiston.
Judge Michelle Evans sentenced Johnson this week to five years of probation. The Lewiston Tribune reports that Judge Evans stated that she believes Johnson is remorseful and that he is committed to receiving mental health treatment. Johnson was also sentenced to 76 days in jail and credited for time already served.
The Washington State Patrol has been investigating Johnson for allegedly firing several shots from his truck before he crossed into Idaho. Troopers believe he fired a round near a trooper who had a vehicle pulled over on State Route 26 near Colfax. No one was hurt during the rolling shooting spree last summer.
