Washington State and Utah State Set to Clash on Monday in Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

BOISE, ID – Washington State and Utah State will meet in the 29th Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 22, at Albertsons Stadium on the campus of Boise State University.

Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time, with the game televised nationally on ESPN.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring these two incredible programs to Boise to host a 29th edition of our game,” said Danielle Brazil, executive director of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. “Every event surrounding bowl week, including the game itself, serves as a celebration of college football and Idaho Potatoes on the national stage.”

Utah State enters the matchup with a 6-6 overall record and a 4-4 mark in Mountain West play. The Aggies are making their sixth appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, the most of any school. Their previous trips include appearances in 1997, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2023, with their lone win coming in 2012 against Toledo. Utah State is 6-11 all-time in bowl games and is playing in the postseason for the fourth time in the past five years.

Washington State is also 6-6 and will be playing in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl for the first time. The Cougars are 8-11 in bowl games and are making their fourth postseason appearance in the last five seasons. Their most recent bowl victory came in the 2018 Alamo Bowl against Iowa State.

Utah State’s defense is led by John Miller, a first-team All-Mountain West selection who recorded 76 tackles in conference play. Quarterback Bryson Barnes, a second-team All-Mountain West honoree, passed for 1,831 yards and rushed for 532 yards in league games, accounting for 15 touchdowns.

Washington State is led by team captains Joshua Meredith and Tucker Large. Meredith has a team-high 639 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Large has recorded 70 tackles this season after transferring from South Dakota State.

The matchup also serves as a preview of future conference play. Beginning in the 2026 season, Utah State will join the Pac-12, where Washington State remains one of the conference’s two continuing members.
