Idaho Fish and Game highlights Good Neighbor Authority projects in Clearwater region

LEWISTON, ID – Idaho Fish and Game is highlighting its collaborative habitat work in the Clearwater region through a newly released video and podcast focused on the Good Neighbor Authority program.

According to a press release from Idaho Fish and Game, the agency manages wildlife across the state but owns less than one percent of Idaho’s available wildlife habitat. As a result, the department relies on partnerships with other landowners and land management agencies to complete large-scale habitat improvement projects .

One of those partners is the Nez Perce–Clearwater National Forest, one of the largest land management agencies in the region. The Good Neighbor Authority, or GNA, provides the framework that allows Idaho Fish and Game to work with the Forest Service and other landowners to carry out projects that align with each agency’s management goals.

Fish and Game officials said projects developed through GNA are spread across the landscape to create a mix of habitat types that support a variety of wildlife species. The newly released video features wildlife habitat biologist Tara Ball, who explains how the program works and highlights a mastication project on the Nez Perce–Clearwater National Forest near Elk River.

The agency has also released a related episode of its “Shootin’ the Bull” podcast, which further discusses Good Neighbor Authority projects and habitat work in the region.

Idaho Fish and Game said the video and podcast are intended to provide the public with a closer look at how partnerships help improve wildlife habitat on lands not owned by the department .
