LEWISTON, ID — Hells Gate State Park will welcome the new year with its 11th annual First Day Hike on January 1, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the park’s trail system and take part in family-friendly activities.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with check-in at the Lewis and Clark Discovery Center, where participants can pick up trail maps and warm drinks before heading out. The hike is unguided, with more than 12 miles of trails available for all ages and experience levels.

Participants are asked to return to the Discovery Center by 1 p.m., where complimentary chili and treats will be available. Children’s activities, including a coloring and drawing station, will also be offered.

A raffle drawing for a handcrafted walking stick is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Participants must be present to win.
