SANDPOINT, ID – Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal vehicle versus train collision that occurred Sunday afternoon north of Sandpoint.

The crash happened at approximately 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 at the intersection of West Selle Road and North Boyer Road. According to Idaho State Police, a 63-year-old man from Sandpoint was driving a white 2008 Nissan Titan westbound on West Selle Road when the vehicle struck a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train that was moving through the crossing.

The roadway was blocked for about four hours due to the stopped train. Idaho State Police said next of kin has been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
