OLYMPIA, WA – Anglers fishing for salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River and many of its Washington tributaries — including the Snake River in Asotin County — will be required to purchase a new endorsement beginning Jan. 1, 2026, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The Columbia River Salmon and Steelhead Endorsement will be required for anglers age 15 and older and must be purchased in addition to a valid fishing license. The endorsement costs $8.75 for most anglers and $7.10 for 15-year-olds and resident seniors.
In Asotin County, the requirement applies to the mainstem Snake River from its mouth to the Oregon state line. Anglers targeting species other than salmon or steelhead do not need the endorsement.
State officials say funds from the endorsement will support recreational salmon and steelhead fishing opportunities amid budget shortfalls.
