Two Killed, Two Injured in Eastern Washington Rollover Crash

OTHELLO, WA – Two people were killed and two others were injured Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash on State Route 26 in Adams County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers were called to the crash at 8:01 a.m. near milepost 56 on SR 26, about 19 miles east of Othello. The vehicle, a 1997 Honda Odyssey, was traveling eastbound when it lost control on an icy roadway, overcorrected, and rolled. The vehicle came to rest in a field south of the roadway.

The Washington State Patrol said the cause of the crash was speed too fast for conditions.

The driver was identified as 30-year-old Apolinario Velasquez Ordonez of Othello. He was not injured and was wearing a seat belt, according to police. Charges could be pending as the crash is still under investigation.

Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as 48-year-old Nicolas Gregorio Matias and 23-year-old Edvin Matias Matias, both of Othello. WSP reported neither was wearing a seat belt.

Two other passengers were injured. Romeo Matheas Verlaz, 28, of Othello, was life-flighted to Kadlec Hospital. Anselmo Perez Ordonez, 35, of Othello, was transported to Othello Hospital. Both were reported to have been wearing seat belts.

Three additional passengers — Antonio Baten, 21; Evin A. Hernandez Hernandez, 30; and the driver — were not injured. WSP reported those occupants were wearing seat belts.
