SPOKANE VALLEY, WA. — A Spokane Valley man was arrested early New Year’s Day following a rollover crash that left a juvenile passenger seriously injured and led to a confrontation with witnesses, according to the Spokane Valley Police Department.
Deputies responded around 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2026, to a reported collision near the intersection of North Houk Road and East Mansfield Avenue. While en route, deputies were advised that the driver involved in the crash was armed with a knife and fighting with witnesses at the scene.
According to law enforcement, the driver was identified as 38-year-old Adam L. Powe. Investigators believe Powe was driving while impaired when the crash occurred, with his young son as a passenger. After the rollover, Powe allegedly attempted to leave the scene with the child but was confronted by witnesses, leading to a physical altercation.
Authorities say Powe brandished a knife and threatened to stab the witnesses. The witnesses were able to disarm him before deputies arrived. None of the witnesses were injured.
Powe and the juvenile passenger were taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The child suffered a substantial laceration, but injuries were described as serious and non-life-threatening.
Following the investigation, deputies developed probable cause to arrest Powe on multiple charges, including vehicular assault, two counts of felony harassment, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, and two counts of fourth-degree assault.
After being medically cleared, Powe was booked into the Spokane County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
