BOISE, ID — Elementary students at 158 schools across Idaho will receive free fresh fruits and vegetables during the school day through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for the 2025–2026 school year, according to the Idaho State Department of Education.
The federally funded, state-administered program provides participating schools with fresh produce outside of regular breakfast and lunch periods, offering students additional opportunities to try foods they may not regularly encounter. Schools with the highest enrollment of students eligible for free and reduced-price meals are given priority under the National School Lunch Act.
Grant awards were issued through a competitive application process and cover the period from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Funding is contingent on available USDA funds, state officials said.
