SALMON, ID – Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning on U.S. Highway 93 in Lemhi County.
According to ISP, the crash happened at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 5, 2026. An 82-year-old man from Salmon was traveling northbound on U.S. 93 in a 1999 GMC Sierra pickup when he lost control of the vehicle on icy road conditions.
Police say the pickup went off the north side of the roadway and overturned into the Salmon River. The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
There were no other occupants in the vehicle. ISP reported the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Idaho State Police were assisted at the scene by the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office and Lemhi County Search and Rescue.
