Two Dogs Found Dead-Ten Dogs Found Severely Underweight at Home in Rural Latah County

PRINCETON, ID – An investigation is underway after two dogs were found dead and ten severely underweight dogs were rescued from a home in Princeton, Monday morning.

The Latah County Sheriff’s Office was called to a report of animal cruelty at a home on McKinneyville Road around 11:30.  Deputies found two deceased dogs.  The Idaho Animal Rescue Network out of Lewiston reports on their Facebook page that the dogs are believed to have died from starvation.  One was found dead in an outdoor kennel with its mate, and the other was found inside the home.  One of the deceased dogs was taken to the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at Washington State University for a necropsy.

The ten severely underweight dogs were rescued by deputies and the network.  Two redbone coonhounds found in the most critical condition are in intensive care at the Viking Veterinary Hospital in Moscow.  The remaining eight dogs were transported to the Humane Society of the Palouse in Moscow.  The ten surviving dogs are seven adults and three puppies, according to the rescue network’s social media.  The influx of rescue dogs to the humane society in Moscow forced the shelter to close on Monday.

Both the rescue network and Humane Society are seeking donations to help pay for the rescue dogs’ medical expenses.  You can find links to help the Humane Society here.

Donations to the rescue network can be made here.

Latah County Sheriff Richie Skiles says no arrests have been made, but the case is under active investigation.
