Schweitzer Wellbeing Center to Open January 12 in Pullman

PULLMAN, WA — Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) will officially open the Schweitzer Wellbeing Center (SWC) to the community on January 12, 2026. The facility, formerly known as the Pullman Aquatic and Fitness Center, will continue serving the Palouse as a health, fitness, and community resource under SEL’s ownership and management.

The reopening comes after the Pullman School District ended its interlocal agreement with the City of Pullman in 2024, which previously allowed the city to operate the aquatic center.

To mark the transition and celebrate 25 years of service, SWC will offer a 25% discount on monthly memberships purchased from January through March 2026. Daily passes will also be available starting January 12, and more details can be found at swcpullman.com .

According to SEL, the center will include modernized amenities and expanded programming aimed at supporting wellness for all ages. Community members are encouraged to sign up for email updates or follow SWC on social media for information about operating hours, classes, and events.

SWC is currently hiring lifeguards. Those interested can apply at selinc.com/careers.

The facility originally opened in 2000, funded by a gift from the Schweitzer family. After being donated to the Pullman School District, it was operated for several years through a partnership with the City of Pullman. In 2025, SEL and Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer III and his wife Beatriz reacquired the center with plans to revitalize the space and reaffirm its role in community wellbeing.
