LEWISTON, ID – A Lewiston man was arrested Jan. 8 following a reported citizen dispute that led to an alleged battery, resistance during arrest, and additional charges, according to court documents.
The records say 19-year-old David L. Wheeler was taken into custody after deputies responded to a reported dispute earlier in the evening. The incident was reported near Tammany Creek Road and deputies determined there was probable cause for a battery charge.
Attempts were made to contact Wheeler by phone, but he was described as uncooperative and refused to meet with law enforcement.
Deputies later responded to a residence on Cedar Avenue and made contact with Wheeler. The affidavit states that when deputies attempted to take him into custody, he retreated into the residence and actively resisted arrest. Deputies reported a physical struggle during which Wheeler allegedly pushed, kicked, and spat at officers, and refused to follow commands.
The affidavit further states that Wheeler denied his identity and provided a false name. His identity was later confirmed through a photograph and a tattoo on his right arm. Deputies reported that Wheeler continued to resist while being escorted to a patrol vehicle and initially refused to enter the vehicle.
Wheeler was booked into jail on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, a felony, and misdemeanor battery, resisting or obstructing officers, and providing false information to law enforcement.
