BOISE, ID — Gas prices across Idaho continue to trend lower compared to last year, according to a new report from AAA Idaho.
As of Monday, January 12, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Idaho stands at $2.77. That is two cents lower than one week ago, 26 cents cheaper than a month ago, and 27 cents less than the price recorded at the same time last year, AAA reported.
Idaho’s average remains slightly below the national average of $2.79 per gallon. Nationwide prices are also down two cents from last week, 13 cents from last month, and 27 cents compared to one year ago.
The state currently ranks 22nd in the nation for fuel prices. Hawaii continues to have the most expensive fuel at an average of $4.40 per gallon, while Oklahoma reports the lowest average at $2.21. All but nine states are now reporting gas prices below $3 per gallon.
AAA noted that neighboring states are currently posting lower averages, with Utah priced 22 cents less than Idaho, Wyoming 33 cents less, and Montana four cents less. However, officials said prices in the Treasure Valley have risen slightly over the past week, which could indicate upward pressure in the near future.
Crude oil prices remain mixed. West Texas Intermediate crude is trading near $59 per barrel, about $2 higher than a month ago but roughly $20 lower than this time last year.
AAA also released average fuel prices for select Idaho communities as of January 12:

- Franklin: $2.55
- Idaho Falls: $2.79
