McCain Foods Recalls Frozen Potato Products Due to Plastic Contamination

BOISE, ID – McCain Foods USA Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of two frozen potato products due to the possible presence of clear hard plastic fragments, according to a federal enforcement report.

The recall affects Ore-Ida Tater Tots shaped potatoes and Sysco Imperial Potato Tater Barrels produced at McCain’s Burley, Idaho facility. The recall was initiated on December 3, 2025, and remains ongoing. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified the recall as Class II on January 6, 2026, indicating that consumption could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.

The Ore-Ida Tater Tots product is a frozen potato item packaged in a 30-pound clear, unlabeled poly bag per case under McCain Foodservice Solutions. Approximately 21,256 cases are included in the recall. The Sysco Imperial Potato Tater Barrel product is packaged in six five-pound clear, unlabeled poly bags per case, with about 17,597 cases affected. Both products were recalled after plastic fragments were discovered.

According to the report, the recalled products were distributed to multiple states, including Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, and several others nationwide.
